From the President

Greetings.

There are a number of changes coming to the Harmony Museum in 2020.  The biggest one is that Kathy Luek has decided to retire as our administrator this summer, after 20+ years of keeping the museum up and running. Her thoughtfulness, thoroughness, dedication, and encyclopedic knowledge of all things Harmony will be impossible to replace…but we will try.  I’m working to get a job description down on paper so we can start the recruitment process.  We want to have the new administrator hired by early summer so that person can work with Kathy for a month or two to ease the transition. If you know of someone looking for a part-time job who has an interest in history and has skills in office management and dealing with the public, have them contact me, or Kathy to get a better understanding of what all is involved.

If you haven’t seen the wonderful article and video the Post-Gazette did on Harmony’s Silvester Celebration here’s the link:  https://www.post-gazette.com/local/north/2019/12/31/For-New-Year-s-Butler-County-town-is-in-Harmony-with-Germany/stories/201912310134    There are wonderful photos and a great video of the Christmas Tree Toss featuring museum member Kevin Lutz—he’s a natural on camera!

Hats off to shop manager Jo Annette Cynkar who for the second year in a row made the museum shop a money maker—no easy task in these challenging times for bricks and mortar retailers. If you haven’t visited the shop lately, step in and see the interesting merchandise for home and garden, and the selection of history-related books for young and old. The shop is a great outreach of the Harmony Museum and now a profitable one as well.
