From the President
We had a wonderful evening of fun music and great food at “A Night at the Tavern” on Saturday July 27th. Stewart Hall looked great, with candlelight, and flowers decorating our big round tables. The Wayward Companions (and candlelight) helped transport us all to an earlier time. Included in the audience was a special visitor—David Speidel, from Cape Girardeau, Missouri. David is a descendant of Harmonists, his ancestor having left the Harmony Society when it was in New Harmony, Indiana. He was quite sure that ancestor’s parents are buried in our Harmonist Cemetery. David was doing Harmonist family research before he left Missouri and saw the event on our website.
I look forward to seeing you at Cellos in Harmony. Grammy Award winning cellist Eugene Friesen is coming to Harmony September 13, 14, and 15, for a series of workshops and concerts sponsored by the Museum. Joining Friesen for some of the workshops and concerts will be Cello Fury, the phenomenal Pittsburgh cello trio. This weekend of cello music is the brainchild of museum member Andrew Orient who is friends with Eugene Friesen, a 4-time Grammy Award winner. Tickets are available at EventBrite.com, search “Cellos”.
The event is sponsored by the Harmony Museum thanks to the Ruch Memorial Music Fund. This weekend’s events have also received support from the Butler County Tourism and Convention Bureau, Peoples Gas, Rodgers Brothers/Monongahela Capital Management, and media support from Pittsburgh public stations WYEP and WESA. Additional support from Farmer’s National Bank, Insurance Services of Zelienople, and the law firm Dillon, McCandless, King, Coulter & Graham.
