Volunteer Opportunities
If you have special hobbies or interests like miniature railroading, fiber arts, wood working, being a reenactor or demonstrator or other historically connected talent (or even if you just want to get involved in some of these activities) we would love to have your help! We are looking to expand our demonstrations and educational activities and there are many opportunities available.
- Harmony Museum Quilter
The volunteer quilters for the Harmony Museum meet on Tuesday mornings from 9 – 12 in the Wagner building. We hand quilt a raffle quilt for the museum each year as well as projects for others. We coordinate a quilting event in May which often features Pat Knoechel presenting new ideas and patterns of her sister, Eleanor Burns. We also demonstrate our craft at the Christmas market in November. Any hand quilter is welcome to join us.
- Collections
Help maintain and clean displays, catalog artifacts, organize and label new items.
- Tours
Docents guide tours for visitors through the museum or walking tours around the Historic District. Training is provided about the collections, the buildings and the history.
- Events Committee
Events are Historic Harmony’s bread and butter and help is always needed. Plan, prepare and put into action the events that keep Historic Harmony running. Our events are varied and full of those things that make our history come alive: Christmas Market, Quilt-in-a-Day, Garden programs, Music events, Antique Gun Show, Silvester New Year’s Celebration. Volunteers make them all possible and fun too!
- Student Internships
Internships are available through various colleges and universities and we are always looking for fresh ideas and talents. Data entry, website maintenance, work with the collections, docent training and more.
- Activity Volunteers
From serving bratwurst to helping with children’s crafts to operating miniature train displays, it is lending a hand wherever it is needed.
